The Resilience Centre is a large established psychology practice based in Sydney providing therapy for individuals, couples, and families. The regional team currently offer appointments via telehealth with the opportunity to meet face to face from June 2024.

At the Resilience Centre it is our hope to work with clients to link with their most helpful social resources to develop the skills needed to face the difficult challenges in life. We work individuals who have past experiences of working in Defence and / or first responders.

Each of the regional team have experience of working with people who have gone through trauma and significant life difficulties.

Using a relational approach, the team seek to form a collaborative partnership with each client in the healing journey and alongside the team at the Pro Patria centre, seek to link together a support network to enable recovery.

Psychology sessions are claimable with Medicare if you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. Alternatively, rebates are available through most private health funds and DVA.

  • Lyn Worsley, BA (Hons) Psych, RN, MAPS, Clinical Psycholgist

    Lyn Worsley is the Director of The Resilience Centre. She is a Clinical Psychologist and Registered Nurse with vast experience in teaching, youth work, early childhood, hospitals and correctional services. She specialises in child, adolescent & family psychology and relationship issues. She is also the author of “The Resilience Doughnut Book – The Secret of Strong Kids” and “The Resilience Doughnut Book – The Secret of Strong Adults”.Lyn’s Specialty Areas Include: Adolescent Depression, Child Anxiety, Child Behavioural Assessments, Family Crisis Work, Post Natal Depression, ADHD, and ADD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorders, Counselling for Medical Personnel, Psychometric and Educational

    Lyn enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and National Convenor of the Child, Adolescent and Family Psychology Interest Group.

    Lyn uses cognitive behavioural therapy and solution focused therapy to assist people with a wide range of problems.

  • Joe Alberts, (BA, BA (Hons) Psych, MA Clin Psych, MAPS Clinical Psychologist

    Joe Alberts is a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist with 36 years of practice. He specialises in working with individuals aged 18 and older, particularly those who have experienced trauma at any stage of their life. His diverse background includes working in psychiatric facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, providing support to active soldiers at the war front, and engaging in private practice.

    In addition to his clinical work, Joe has a unique perspective gained through coaching and mentoring senior executives in corporate settings. This has given him a deep understanding and empathy for the stressors faced by senior managers and the ability to assist them effectively.

    Joe follows an eclectic, evidence-based approach to treatment, placing a strong emphasis on achieving results in collaboration with his clients within a warm, positive, and accepting therapeutic relationship. His areas of expertise include mood disorders, chronic pain, addiction, men’s issues, and post-trauma stress stemming from recent and childhood trauma. He also enjoys the challenge of working with couples to resolve acute or long-term relationship problems.

    Clients are encouraged to reach out for a brief discussion, reflecting Joe’s openness to connecting with individuals seeking support.

  • Michelle Wotton, MPsych (Clinical), BPsych (Hons), BPsychSc, PGCertAppPsy, MAPS FCCLP

    Michelle is a dedicated clinical psychologist with over 10 years of experience, specializing in working with adolescents, adults, and families in diverse mental health settings. She holds an academic teaching position at ACU and has furthered her qualifications through a Master of Clinical Psychology program.

    Having worked in public hospitals across Northern Sydney, Michelle has a strong background in assisting individuals within the community dealing with various mental health conditions. She is known for her warmth and empathy, applying evidence-based therapies to address a wide range of mental health disorders.

    Michelle’s passion lies in helping individuals recover from conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders (including phobias, social anxiety, OCD), bipolar disorder, psychosis, and personality disorders. Additionally, she offers therapy for those facing challenges like grief and loss, life dilemmas, relationship development and maintenance, and low self-esteem. Michelle’s comprehensive approach aims to support individuals through a variety of mental health concerns.

  • Christina O’Connell BA, PGDip (Psych), MA (Educational & Developmental Psych) Clinical Psychologist

    Having attained a Masters in Educational and Developmental Psychology in Australia and the Level 2 Resilience Doughnut Accreditation, Clinical Psychologist, Christina O’Connell has been helping people overcome adversity and challenges for almost a decade.

    Christina has worked with a wide variety of clients, from children, young adults and parents to senior citizens dealing with various mental health issues. She has worked within the primary and secondary school settings, as well as having worked in private practice. She has experience working with people in Australia, and also supported expats in Europe for a few years.

    Over the past decade Christina’s experience working with young adults in one-on-one sessions, group sessions and large seminars has furthered her ability to connect with young adults in various ways to help them build resilience.

    Christina’s unusual balance of humour, direct communication, emotional insight and integrity, supports Christina’s patients to develop their skills to deal with their challenges to reach a place of real authenticity and healing.

    Inspired by the work of John Gottman, the research of Brené Brown and the insight of Richard Rohr, Christina continuously explores ways to develop her emotional understanding and practical skills. Christina’s curiosity ensures she always has her finger on the pulse of the latest techniques and findings in the industry, and from time to time makes alteration to ensure her patients and those who attend her seminars are served with the well-rounded, up-to-date information.

    Christina holds a calm and safe therapeutic space in her one-on-one sessions, which are a balanced mix of practicality and reflection.

    She uses an integrative approach incorporating cognitive behaviour therapy, solution focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and play therapy.

    Christina is an EMDR trained practitioner.
