Opening of the Defence Shed Wagga Wagga: A New Space for Healing and Connection

On December 6, 2024, the Pro Patria Centre in Wagga Wagga celebrated the grand opening of the Defence Shed Wagga Wagga, a significant addition aimed at supporting veterans and their families. This new facility is designed to foster healing, connection, and community engagement among those who have served in the Australian Defence Force.

Having the Defence Shed is part of the Pro Patria Centre's broader mission to provide holistic support to veterans and first responders. The Defence Shed now has a permanent home to serve as a vital space where veterans can come together, share experiences, and access various support services.

The opening of the Defence Shed marks a pivotal moment for the Wagga Wagga community, which is home to a significant number of current and former ADF personnel. The Pro Patria Centre aims to create an environment that promotes self-agency and well-being among veterans and their families . The Defence Shed will not only provide a physical space for activities and workshops but also serve as a hub for building lasting connections within the veteran community.

As the Defence Shed begins its operations on site it  plans to roll out various programs and services in the coming months. These initiatives will focus on mental health, physical wellbeing, and social engagement, ensuring that veterans have access to the resources they need to thrive after their service.

The opening of the Defence Shed at the Pro Patria Centre is a promising development for Wagga Wagga's veterans and their families. By providing a dedicated space for healing and connection, the Defence Shed embodies the community's commitment to supporting those who have served. As the centre continues to grow and evolve, it stands as a beacon of hope and resilience for veterans in the Riverina region.

We would like to extend our  gratitude to the Commonwealth Government for their invaluable support through the Veteran Wellbeing Grant, which has been instrumental in advancing the Defence Shed Project. Additionally, we are deeply appreciative of the incredible generosity shown by the Wagga Wagga and Riverina community. Their financial contributions and in-kind support have played a crucial role in bringing this project to life, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to the wellbeing of our veterans and their families. Thank you for standing with us in this important endeavour!
